THE POOL
The Pool is one of my earliest series, born in the summer of 2016 at our family home in the Hamptons. While my children played and the sun stood high above, I became mesmerized by the hypnotic patterns dancing across the small blue mosaic tiles of our pool. The water fractured light into ever-shifting lines—ephemeral, alive, and impossible to capture the same way twice. At the time, I was an amateur photographer who carried a camera everywhere. My nine-year-old daughter once looked at me and asked, “Mom, why don’t you live in the moment instead of taking pictures all the time?” It was a profound question. I told her she was right—but for me, this was how I lived in the moment. Through the lens, I could hold onto the fleeting beauty around me before it slipped away.
I had never photographed abstract forms before, but the water’s constant transformation pulled me in. Each frame felt like a new painting. I might have gone on forever if not for the fact that we were late for her tennis tournament that day. These images preserve more than just light on water—they carry the essence of endless summer afternoons, my children’s laughter echoing off the water, and a mother’s quiet wish to hold onto time, if only for a moment.
